Feel like Hiding?

This week I have been thinking about the concept of hiding, especially as it has suddenly grown cold outside.  When it is only 5 degrees and the roads are covered with snow and ice that doesn’t melt during the day, it makes me want to bundle up and shut myself away until it’s warm out again. Some of us also feel like hiding when we are overwhelmed with life and are using all of our energy just to get through the day and do the things we have to do. Let’s remember we have a refuge and place of safety that we can turn to.  We do not have to shut the world out and suffer alone. Let us cry out to Jesus, because He is like a strong tower that we can run to and find comfort and help for every problem we face.

Psalm 32:7 is my favorite scripture!

It says…

           You are my hiding place; You preserve me from trouble;

       You surround me with songs of deliverance.

This verse gives such a vivid image of how God is there and will be our strength when we are weak, our shelter during the storms of life, and our deliverance when the battle is raging against us.  And how awesome is it that it says He surrounds us with songs!  This has encouraged me countless times as I navigated flares and remissions with an undiagnosed invisible illness for many, many years.

Did you know that if God were to re-adjust our eyes to a different wavelength,

we would be able to visibly see music and singing?

Physicists explain that light is much more complex than the visible light that we can see with the human eye.  Only three percent of the light spectrum makes up visible light.  Within the light spectrum is a range of wavelengths called radio waves, and within this range of wavelengths is an even smaller range that may be detected by the human ear.  As light travels through space at the wavelength that is within the threshold of audibility, we may hear this light as music and singing.  Therefore, all music and singing is light!  No wonder there is divine protection in music.

Light is part of God’s very nature.  It says in 1 John 1:5, “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”  So, it could be said that music and singing contain a very real element of God’s essence.

Remember there is often more going on around us than we can see. Let’s come out of hiding and soak in this truth. And when we feel like giving up and hiding, let’s ask God to be our hiding place. He wants to surround us with His light that will dispel the shadows and darkness that we are facing today.
